HISTORY:

Hegedorn family operated business dates back to the family's 1933 dairy. In 1953 they opened an IGA supermarket at the current location.
"... the Grand Opening in 1953 drew 3,000-4,000 people. The crowds were phenomenal and attracted by clever marketing ideas such as free gifts, tickets for valuable prizes and was a truly successful Hegedorn-style hometown event. Chest-type freezers and other appliances were sold in the newly constructed, easily accessible, state-of-the-art, modern self-service store. Many of today's loyal shoppers attended the grand opening as a child." - Feb 2004 Business of the Month - Webster Chamber
Hegedorn's was the location and background for the 2002 film "Checkout".
"This is not a movie that merely used Webster as a film location and then fictionalized the names so no one could make out any real identities; this is a film about Webster, New York, the Hegedorn family and their long-time local business, Hegedorn's IGA hometown Supermarket.
Many familiar faces are included in the final version, shot in various locales around Webster and Rochester. Some of the movie's undertones and actual scenes take a little poetic license in depicting Webster as more rural than we know it to be at the beginning of the 21st Century.
But in the end, the film is true to the real character of Webster, ending on a positive note because of Webster people coming together and showing their community, hometown pride."
